Wat Kukut was built in 1218 towards the end of Mon culture in Thailand. It is one of the few surviving examples of Mon architecture in Thailand. It has the form of a stepped pyramid rising in five tiers (see picture 1, below). Each of the five layers is decorated with niches containing standing Buddha images.
